February 2005 was the sixth year in a row that DREW CAREY AND THE IMPROV ALLSTARS played in Las Vegas for Super Bowl Weekend. We were at the MGM Grand for 6 shows in 4 nights. It’s one of our favorite gigs of the year, we always have a blast. This year rock legend, JOE WALSH, sat in with us! The Whose Line guitarist, LINDA TAYLOR, and I got to learn a bunch of James Gang, Eagles and Joe Walsh tunes straight from the source. I couldn’t believe I was playing “Rocky Mountain Way” with Joe himself!

During the shows we got to jam during the song games as well as in between the other games. It was so exciting to have Joe play the opening riff to “Life’s Been Good” and have the crowd go wild. What an amazing feeling! I can’t imagine what it feels like to have written something that is so immediately recognizable to so many people.

Joe also sat in as an improviser for a few games. He is really funny in a totally bizarre, abstract way. The guys especially like to have him play “Story” at the end of the show, and on Saturday night Ryan Stiles even got Linda Taylor and I up to play “Story” too! Everyone said we looked like deer in the headlights, and it was no surprise because that’s how we felt! People think that just because we’re around improv all the time we should somehow magically know how to do it, but that’s like saying that just because you hang out with Michealangelo you should know how to paint!
