Several of us from my church choir got hired on this film to be Christmas carolers. We were dressed in traditional costumes which involved bonnets, petticoats and full length skirts that were impossible to keep out of the mud. When we got there they decided that even though we were real singers (including a few who’d sung on Broadway), they’d have us lip sync to tracks. And although they had a whole group of us (including two actual choir directors) they cast in the role of the choir director someone who had no idea how to lead a group of singers. Our choir director jumped to her aid, gave her a quick lesson, and we all lip synced to our hearts content. We shot over several nights, usually finishing at 4 or 5 AM, and it was cold (well, that is for us sissy Southern Californians.)It turned out we were grateful for the big, cumbersome costumes (at least they were warm) and for the fact that we didn’t have to actually sing in the middle of the night in the cold air. But best of all, we got to meet Jamie Lee Curtis, who was funny & sweet.
