In 2003, I was lucky enough to work on a kid’s video loosely based on the song “the Wheels on the Bus”. Tim Armstrong wrote and produced it, we co-wrote the songs. It’s geared toward very young children. Since I already had a cd of children’s music, and I love writing for kids, I knew I was perfect for the job. I ended up recording everything in my studio: the songs, the actor’s dialog and singing, and the underscore. We had to pre-record all the dialog and songs since we were using puppets and animation. I ended up also singing, doing some dialog myself, editing the dialog, and even acting in the video. My husband did a character, played trombone, my kids sang on the tracks and were in it. Boy did I learn a lot, everything from how to edit dialog (which I’d never done before), to getting the best performances out of children in the studio.
The most exciting aspect was working with Roger Daltrey. The producer has a mutual friend with Roger, and we were lucky enough to get him. Roger did the voice of Argon, an 8 foot tall dragon who drives the bus. Roger likes acting (when he has time off from being a rock star), and had never done much voice-over before. He did a great job with both the singing (of course!) and the acting as well. The day he came to my studio I had more friends volunteer to bring coffee, pick up lunch for us, anything to get to meet Roger!
The video was very well received. We got lots of great reviews, and won several awards, including the prestigious Parents’ Choice Award and DOVE endorsement. You can find out more about it, or buy yourself a copy at
