The Story Of Your Family
Words and music by Laura Hall © 1995
This was inspired by my niece being the age where she was asking lots of questions about how our family was connected. It was like a puzzle to her. She’d say “Oh, so Grandma is my mom’s mother?!? And you’re her sister?” It seemed so amazing to her how we were linked together.
Once upon a time your Grandma was a kid like you
Once upon a time your Grandma was a kid like you
And she liked to play all day just like you do
Once upon a time your Grandma was a kid like you
Once upon a time your Grandma grew up and married the man she loved
Once upon a time your Grandma grew up and married the man she loved
And that man was your Grandpa
Once upon a time your Grandma grew up and married the man she loved
Once upon a time your Grandma and Grandpa had a baby of their own
Once upon a time your Grandma and Grandpa had a baby of their own
And that baby was your Mama, they watched her grow
Once upon a time your Grandma and Grandpa had a baby of their own
Then your Mama grew up and married your Daddy
They had a baby too
They love that little baby
Cause that baby was you
Yeah it’s true
That’s the story of your family, how it grows and grows
That’s the story of your family, how it grows and grows
With lots of love for everyone, like a river it flows
That’s the story of your family, how it grows and grows
That’s the story of your family, how it grows and grows
That’s the story of your family, how the love grows and grows
Yeah that’s the story
That’s the story
